Solve this equation: 2s + s + 12 = 132?
A. s = 120
B. s = 40
C. s = -30
D. s = 9
I'm leaning towards option B (s = 40). Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I'm really trying to wrap my head around algebra, as I never studied it in high school years ago. Now that I'm back in school working on my diploma, any guidance would be incredibly appreciated. Thank you so much!

This is a simple question-
2s+s+12=132
From (A.) substitute the value of s
2(120) + 120+ 12
2* 120+120+12 will not be equal to 132
similarly,
in option B,
2(40) + 40+ 12 = 132
2*40 +40+12=132
132 = 132
LHS = RHS
Hence proved
Similarly try for all other options!
If LHS = RHS,
Then the equation is correct
Good Day
Yes, S = 40.
Here is how to get it.
2S + S + 12 = 132
2S + S = 132 - 12
3S = 120
S = 120 / 3
S = 40
Intro to Algebra is easy as long as you know your multiplication Table and remember to change the sign when you move numbers or sign to the other side of the equal sign.
Good luck on your diploma. =)
2s+s+12=132 First you combine like terms
3s+12=132 Then you subtract 12 from both sides
3s=120 Then you divide by 3 on both sides
s=40

Think of the single "s" as being "1s". So,
2s + 1s + 12 = 132
Get the 12 on the other side of the equals sign by subtracting (since 12 is positive on the one side, you would just reverse signs to get it on the other side. If it were negative, then you would add 12). Anything you do on one side of the equals sign you will do on the other side:
2s + 1s + 12 - 12 = 132 - 12
2s + 1s = 120
Then, you can add the s values:
2s + 1s = 120
3s = 120
Now you solve for s. Since 3s is really 3 times s (3 X s), you would divide by 3 to get the value of just s. Again, what you do on one side of the equals sign you do on the other:
3s/3 = 120/3
s = 40
Hope this helps.
2s + s + 12 = 132
3s + 12 = 132
3s = 132 - 12
3s = 120
s = 120/ 3
s = 40
so it is B
2s + s+ 12 =132
3s +12 = 132
3s = 132 - 12
3s = 120
s = 120/3
s = 40
so the answer is b
