However, protoplanetary disks tend to evaporate quickly, typically within a million years, by radiation of the central star and nearby massive stars. The timescale is too short for Jovian planets to grow by collision of planetesimals as smaller planets do.The solution seems to be that Jovian planets can grow by direct gas accretion without forming rocky planetesimals first....
