Is it ‘understanding OF’ or ‘understanding ON’ in this context?

—————————It is important for me as a teacher to understand about educational psychology. If i have a good understanding on educational psychology, i will be able to understand my students’ behavior well and this will automatically help me to find the best approaches that i can apply for my students’ learning so that they can learn and do their very best.

It is important for me as a teacher to understand educational psychology. Having a good understaning of educational psychology will allow me to better understand my students’ behavior and will assist me in determing the best approaches to apply in my teaching so that my students can learn and do their very best.
