My husband doesn’t want me to celebrate his birthday?

My husband recently told me he doesn’t want anyone to wish him a happy birthday or do anything special for him this year. He said, "What is there to celebrate but another year gone by in my life?" His birthday is coming up this Sunday, and I really want to do something nice for him—maybe take him out to dinner and then enjoy a romantic evening together. I just wish he could share in my excitement about his birthday.

To me, his birthday is so much more than just another year; it’s a celebration of the amazing man he is. Without his birth, I wouldn’t have the incredible husband I love so much today. I always make an effort to make him feel special, especially on his birthday, but this year he’s been very clear that he doesn’t want anyone to acknowledge it.

Even though he’s said this, I still want to find a way to make the day meaningful for him. How can I respect his wishes while encouraging him to enjoy his birthday?

I think it’s really sweet that you are wanting to make it a special day for him. Maybe he just isn’t too crazy about turning a year older, lol. I know I always hate that part, lol. Of course if he is real young, that wouldn’t apply.

It sounds like he is a little more depressed about it this year than he normally is. There really isn’t a way to get him to enjoy his birthday I don’t think. I mean, he is all set on not wanting you to go all out and make it a big deal. I think your best bet is to say something like, ” Ok, if you don’t want me to go all out, I won’t, but if you change your mind, I would love to celebrate with you.”

Whatever the case, I am sure he appreciates a wife that adores him so much and cares about his birthday. Good luck to you. I hope this helps.

This is easy. I don’t want my wife to throw me a party as it will cause her to incur stress which I will have help her through via chores of some kind. So why would I volunteer for chores on my birthday? So simple. As a married man I tell my wife that I just want to do what I feel like on my birthday. Maybe fishing, maybe a nap, maybe go have a drink or two w old buddies bc that’s not a real option now kids, etc. She literally can’t comprehend it.

I suggest you listen to what your husband says. He does not want to celebrate and has made it clear. Obviously something is bothering him. It probably has nothing to do with you. It might have to do with age. You sound like a young couple but some men go through stages where there birthday is a reminder THEY are getting older or a reminder of what they did not get accomplished they thought they would be this time in their lives.

My husband was that way when he turned 30. Now he is starting all over as he nears 40. So, let him be and just keep it as a normal, like any other day. Now, if he comes to you or insinuates he really wanted a party and is disappointed, gently remind him HE said he didn’t want one and you were following his wishes.

My husband is like this with all holidays and thinks parties and celebrations are a waste of time and money. Its hard for me to grasp it, after all i plan parties part time and can’t imagine someone not enjoying them. But he doesn’t. He says he was raised in a home where everyday was the same, and where it was too much trouble to do that for someone. The only exception is our kid’s birthdays. For those he pulls out all the stops. Find that time that’s special for your hubby. Anniversary? does h love christmas? Get him little gifts and i love you momentos all year long. I give my husband a small gift on each of our three children’s birthdays. After all, he helped bring them into this world. Even when his b-day isn’t a big deal to him, you can still do nice things for him the rest of the time. but don’t shove it down his throat, he’ll only resent you for it.

he probably doesn’t want a public display and respect that. Be alone together and make his favorite dinner alone. I bet he loves you but some people don’t want a public situation like surprise parties. Please do not torture him that way. He may just be shy and wants to be alone with you. even as a woman I do not like surprise parties.

You can’t force him you can however tell him what you told us…his birthday is special to you because without his birth your life would not be so rich.

It’s his birthday. He doesn’t want it acknowledged. It’s not your birthday. It’s his. Sounds fairly simple to me. Don’t know why you need to force someone to have a good time.

respect his wishes. birthdays are only for chicks and children. we dudes don’t celebrate them. you can always have a nice dinner out some other time if that’s what you’re looking forward to.

God, you sound selfish as hell. If someone doesn't want to acknowledge or celebrate a stupid day, then just respect their wishes and leave them alone, ffs.

I can't stand people like this.
