My puppy won’t eat or drink anything – please help!?
I am currently living in Mexico, and unfortunately, there are no veterinarians available today, so I really need your help. I understand that a vet would be the best option for this situation, but since that’s not possible today, I’m seeking some good advice.
I was recently given two baby puppies. I was told they were 6 weeks old when I got them (8 days ago), but I suspect they may be younger. They might be around 6 weeks now. When I received them, both puppies had worms, and they were treated at the vet 8 days ago. The worms seem to have mostly cleared up, as the occasional stool they pass contains a couple of tiny, maggot-sized worms that don’t appear to be alive. However, they are much better in that respect.
Over the past two days, one of the puppies has become very sick. She won’t eat or drink anything and spends most of her time sleeping. I managed to drop-feed her a little water this morning, but she vomited it up half an hour later. She’s starting to have diarrhea and is looking extremely skinny. She also seems to be dizzy. I’m afraid she may not survive the day.
What can I safely give her to eat or drink? Puppy formula isn’t an option, as it cannot be purchased anywhere nearby. Please help! Thank you.

If you can get caro syrup to give her. The syrup is like a glucose and will help with her appetite an help to keep her from dehydrating. Then you can try powdered baby cereal mixed with regular milk, mix very thin and if she keeps it down gradually thicken it. Importantly try the syrup hopefully it will keep her going until You can get her to a vet, very young puppies are prone to distemper, which is similar to a very serious flu, and you will need a vets help to get her over that. also keep her warm, if its distemper she may have a problem maintaining her own body temperature. Good Luck, I hope she makes it.
What you’re describing sounds pretty serious. It could be parvo which is fatal or distemper which is also fatal. The main thing that kills them is the dehydration. They need to be given fluids which is given under the skin by an IV. If you can’t get them to eat or drink and they are vomiting what you do give them they most likely won’t make it through the night.
I’m sorry, but they really need to be seen by a veterinarian. There isn’t anything anyone here can tell you to do to save your puppies.

Chances are your puppy has parvo. It’s rampant in Mexico. It’s almost impossible to treat without the proper supplies as the treatment consists of antibiotics & either IV or subQ fluids.
The disease wreaks havoc on the intestines causing severe vomiting & diarrhea (often bloody). It kills small pups very quickly because they dehydrate.
It’s very contagious among unvaccinated dogs so unfortunately, your other pup will prpbably get it, too.
If you pup is vomiting you won’t be able to keep it hydrated by mouth.
I’m really sorry but it doesn’t look good for them without vet intervevtion.

You have no choice. You will have to get hold of a vet somehow and you need to do it now! It sounds as though the one puppy is at death’s door. Call a vet or find an emergency clinic NOW! Try a little boiled Karo syrup (cooled) in some water and try to give her that through a dropper. But honestly, it doesn’t sound as though she will make it with diarrhea and vomiting. So sorry ?
I got my boxer when he was almost 4 weeks old. He was going through similar actions. First I would like to say that puppy formula is an option, if you order it online and have it shipped to you. I understand that until then, you need something else. I was told to try pedialyte, since the pup isn’t keeping anything else down. That will help with the dehydration. There is also something in the stores called Nurti-Cal they have it for puppies. It gives them a boost of calories which can keep them going as well until you get the formula. I would take the pup to the vet, they can put them on IV to get fluids as well. The pup may also need antibiotics as well. My boxer needed all of the above. We had to get the puppy formula and feed him with that for about 2 months. We added it to blended up dry dog food. He is now 2 years old as of January 19 2009 and weighs 75 lbs. It works. Good luck!
You might not have a vet open today, but they have phones. You could call and leave a message for them to get back to you or you could call any other vets office, even if you had to call one in the United States…whatever it took. If you were serious about making the puppy better, you wouldn’t be looking for answers on the internet or yahoo answers, you’d CALL A VET.
Call the Humane Society 202-452-1100
And if you go to Google and search dying puppy won’t eat…some tips come up there.
Please just call someone for help though so the puppy doesn’t die.

Yes, there is probably something wrong with her. A puppy that age should be eating several times a day. Especially if she is a small breed puppy in which case she might not yet be able to control her blood sugar without frequent meals. If she is not eating it is imperative you get her to the vet immediately.

I think your puppies might of had a bad reaction to the worm medicine,or they might be to young to be away from their mother’s.I would get them to a vet as soon as possible!!!!
