My sycamore tree is producing a sticky residue thats landing on the car! What is it?
Hello, I have a large sycamore tree hanging over my driveway, and I've noticed that my cars are covered in droplets of a sticky residue, which I believe is coming from the tree. Additionally, I've observed that wasps frequently land on the cars to feed on this substance. Can anyone explain what might be causing this issue with the tree? Could it be related to the various insects that inhabit the tree, such as aphids or other pests? Thank you very much for your insights!

Tree sap and don’t let it say on your car it will take the paint off.
You probably have something called scale on your tree, it is small white or beige looking and is located on the underside of leaves and branches, it seems to be a type of bug and causes the tree to drip sap. We used a product called Volk oil and it cleared it up for months, but returned when we didn`t use it in the dormant season. It will spread to neighboring trees if not treated. It is easy to use, spay on during growing season and water the roots with it in the dormant season. Hope that helps, good luck
It’s tree sap. Hell to get off a car oh and depending on where you live the summer heat can cause the tree sap to get all syrupy and that’s why it drips onto vehicles.
It’s the sap in the tree and that’s why all the bugs and bee’s they like the moisture and sweetness…………but to be truthful you car won’t……..my wife used to park at a doctors office and I finally had to get her to move the car….we had a white vinyl top and it was a mess……..I’m sure you love the tree so just move the cars……..all the best
Could very well be Whitefy. They are right about keeping the car washed and waxed. The Volk oil is one of the more effective controls but Whitefly is difficult because they tend to stay on the bottom of leaves and it is difficult to get good coverage with pesticides.
