My toenail is growing backwards… Help?

My big toe is growing backwards... Yes backwards it looks normal except wheee the toenail grows out from is a little swollen and red. My other big toe I have had to trim twice and this nail keeps getting shorter and shorter... I would never cut my toenail this short and haven't touched it since October. I have had this once before and wentto the toe doctor he agreed it seemed to be growing back into my skin instead of out but he had never seen it. He removed part of my nail and found nothing. He then prescribed me some yeast infection antiboitics this took care of the problem and my toe began growing again and the swelling went down. But I had a bad allergic reaction to that medication and he said if I ever took it again it could kill me. So now I don't know what to do or how to fix it. I also didn't injure my toenail. I snowboard and horseback ride often but haven't injured my toe anytime recentely. Please help! Thanks

I started having ingrown toenails a lot when I was in high school. I kept going to the doctor to have him surgically clip it and sometimes even treat the nail bed on the edges with a type of acid so the nail would grow back a little more normal. Over time the issue just kept coming back. Last year I had one permanently removed and I plan on having the other done this June. I should have done this the first time I had problems and just been done with it all. If you don't mind the cosmetic look of no nail, it's really not a big deal. Heck, the nail bed root grows out and even looks like a nail that's just really short anyway. Find a good podiatrist to check you out but this is likely the problem. Get them permanently removed and as an added bonus you won't have to clip those terrible thick nails again or worry about toenail fungus as much for the rest of your life.... Show More
dude i think i have the same problem. its freaking me out. my toenail looks like i just cut it and it looks normal but its actually not. it's getting longer but it doesnt look like it because when it grows it gets back into my toe more. if i cut the growing part then my toenail would be reallly really small.please email me at [email protected] if you find a way to help/treat this. thanks chris...
