My Runescape account has not logged out from its previous session?

I have a question about my RuneScape account not logging out from its previous session. Approximately 13 hours ago, I intended to log out but ended up just closing my laptop to put it in standby mode. I realize this might not have been the best decision. This morning, when I attempted to log in, I received a message stating that my account has not logged out. I tried again an hour later, but still faced the same issue, which made me quite anxious.
In my search for answers, I read that this might be related to the servers being down. I also asked a friend to try logging in on my laptop, and he had no issues at all. However, I was shown as offline on his friend list, which heightened my concern. I contacted Jagex’s support center, and they reassured me that I shouldn’t worry and that I should just wait about an hour. 
Given that I last logged in around 12 hours ago, and if there's been a glitch for that long, I can't help but feel that something must be wrong, right? Has anyone else experienced this issue or found a solution? Please feel free to ask me any questions related to this problem, and I’ll assist you as best as I can. I’ve had this problem with RuneScape twice before, and I searched the internet for ages trying to figure out how to resolve the issue, but to no avail. Honestly, the only thing that I know of that you can do is wait a few hours, until it logs you out. I had to wait until the next day, which was kind of a bummer. 
If you’re in a clan, what you could do is check on the RS website, in your clan’s private forum, to see if you’re still logged in or not. That’s how I found out that I was still listed as being logged in on W22.

Most issues with online browser games have something to do with cache and cookies. Have you already tried clearing your cache and cookies in your browsers? Have you also tried loging in another pc or another account on your pc?

This happens to everybody. I get that message often, but I close it and try again immediately. I usually get in by closing it and trying again within three times (and this only takes a couple minutes). If it still doesn’t let you in, try a different server and keep trying. Sometimes it is the server. If you accidentally logged out, you should be able to get in no longer than an hour. Rarely, very rarely, this means that someone could be on your account and hacking it, but then you wouldn’t be able to make it to the lobby screen. When you log in again, check your items just to be safe. This error message has been popping up a lot, lately, so you’re definitely not alone.
