∈ means "is an element of" or "belongs to". An example is 1 ∈ {1,2,3} because 1 is an element of the set {1,2,3,}. A more general example would be if R is the set of real numbers then x ∈ R means x is an element of the set of real numbers. ε (epsilon) is a greek letter typically used in the definition of what a limit is from calculus. Σ (sigma) is another greek letter used to show the sum. Say you have Σ from n=1 to 5 of n. Then you plug in 1 for n, then 2 for n, then 3 for n, and so on. Add all those up and you have 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 = 15.... Show More
