How addicting are cigarettes?

I’m curious about the addictive nature of cigarettes. Many people emphasize how addictive they are, and as a 13-year-old who does not smoke and has no intention of starting, I wonder why this is such a significant concern. Is it primarily to deter young people from smoking, or is there substantial evidence that cigarettes are indeed highly addictive? Additionally, can you provide a comparison to other substances or behaviors that are known to be addictive? Lastly, what happens to someone who is addicted to cigarettes if they go without smoking for an extended period? Do they experience severe withdrawal symptoms or other reactions?

Nicotine addiction does not develop easily. If one smokes a stick per month for example, he does not become an addict. One becomes addicted only after smoking too many cigarettes for months. Constant smoking especially if uncontrolled hastens nicotine addiction.

How addicting are cigarettes?

Just out of curiosity, a lot of people stress how addicting cigarettes are. I’m only 13, I do not smoke (that’s why I’m asking) and do not intend to, I simply think that if people stress it so much it would be either to keep us from smoking or because it really is that addicting. By…

They Are Very Addictive .. My Advice To You Never Start Smoking .. Im 19 I Started When I Was 1O Maybe 11 And Still Smoke Now, Ive Tried To Quit On A Number Of Occasions But Always Failed With It

To rank today’s commonly used drugs by their addictiveness, we asked experts to consider two questions: How easy is it to get hooked on these substances and how hard is it to stop using them? Although a person’s vulnerability to drug also depends on individual traits — physiology, psychology, and social and economic pressures — these rankings reflect only the addictive potential inherent in the drug. The numbers below are relative rankings, based on the experts’ scores for each substance:

100Nicotine

99Ice, Glass (Methamphetamine smoked)

98Crack

93Crystal Meth (Methamphetamine injected)

85Valium (Diazepam)

83Quaalude (Methaqualone)

If it is a controlled setting, feel free to experiment, your lungs will restore to normal in a decade after quitting. I know people who stand outside in the middle of winter because they don’t want to give up the pack.

Nicotine can be quite addicting. However, the most dangerous chemical when it comes to addiction occurs naturally inside of you. It is the thrill seeking hormone dopamine. It can be released an any numbers of ways (including smoking in some cases). If you learn how to master the secretion of this horemone (I throw myself off cliffs) then you can wire your body to do some amazing things.

I’ve tried all sorts of drugs (including cocaine) and the only one I truly got addicted to is nicotine (cigarettes). If I don’t have a smoke I feel on edge.

That’s a good question. I use to smoke but I never had a physical addiction. I dont smoke anymore! Whoo! But I did because it was calming and I like that, but I never had a horrible craving. I craved but I wouldnt go mad over it!

The government forced the cigarette companies to show people (via package labels) just what smoking does to your body. Nobody in their right mind would do that on purpose so they MUST be addicted to the point where they cannot stop smoking.
