How long does it take for spackle to dry? How long does it take for primer to dry before I can paint over it?
How long does it take for spackle to dry? Additionally, how long should I wait for primer to dry before I can paint over it? I also need to know the drying time for the first coat of paint. Essentially, I would like to understand the waiting times for each step, as I am in a bit of a rush to paint my kitchen before we move in.

Depends upon how large an area and how deep an area you have spackled, and also, to a lesser degree, the type of spackle you have used.
Allow enough time for it to set completely, usually a day (24 hours), but I wouldn't be afraid to paint over small nail holes, etc. within a few hours. Same thing really with primer

spackle. the stuff i got was pink and it turns white when it dries. didn't take long but i think they say you should wait 24 hours to paint it. you can certainly sand it sooner than that.
when painting, i can paint a room in a day. primer and all. if you start at one end of the room, by the time you reach the other side, the place you started is usually kind of dry to the touch. i'll prime and walk away for a bit, maybe an hour tops. same with each coat of paint. when i'm done painting, i leave it for a day before i move anything in there, just to be sure it's dry.

It all depends on the humidity, and temperature.
At 70 degrees and 20-30% humidity, the time for :
Spackle (get quick dry 10 mins) regular 1-2 hours
Primer 30 mins -3 hours
First & final coats of latex based paint ) 30 mins -4 hours
You can touch several areas to test them, if you don't leave a mark, I rub my hand over a large area. If it is dry feeling you can recoat.
Good luck.
If you read the directions on the can it will give you the average time to dry. A lot depends on the temp and humidity. If I work upstairs the spackle dries in 8-20 min, downstairs it can take as long as 4 hrs. Most manufacturers say wait 18-24 hrs before the second coat. Depends a lot on the type of paint as well. If all else fails, Follow the instructions on the product.
