Booker T. Washington.
W.E.B. Du Bois felt he was too passive, and not aggressive enough to be an advocate of civil righhts. Washington sort of wanted to prove to America that African Americans were capable and equal through education and holding good jobs. Du Bois felt like African Americans shouldn't have to prove anything, so he criticized Washington's tactics.
