Is typical tempera paint washable?
I recently purchased tempera paint from a craft store, but the label on the container doesn’t mention whether it’s washable. Can anyone clarify if typical tempera paint is washable?

Tempera paint, is usually characterized by its opaque consistency (not a transparent type) and for drying very rapidly. Because it is a water based paint, it can easily be applied as a medium to soft body consistency. (a flexible advantage to water colours)
However, the particles in tempera are very similar to gouache, wherein they are larger – and so I would NOT COUNT ON them being washable. Infact, unless it says washable, I would treat them as semi-perminant.
Why not try a test strip on similar paper/medium, as you will be using for the finished product?

Hi,
Barabra gave a good answer.
Mind that some brands call tempera to gouache.
Real tempera is made with egg yolk.
Kind regards,

Tempera, also known as egg tempera, is a permanent fast-drying painting medium consisting of colored pigment mixed with a water-soluble binder medium (usually a glutinous material such as egg yolk or some other size).
Yeah but I don’t suggest purposely painting your clothes, use caution as you would with other paints and treat undesired coloring soon, acrylic paint on the other hand will stain even black sometimes. And if you want it to be not so easily removed from most surfaces cover it with a clear spray glaze aka transparent clear spray paint.
Yes, depending on the fabric and the pigment. Some colors stain on some fabrics. If you can wash in hot water, it will wash out.
Even kids’ washable markers stain some fabrics.
