Can you donate plasma or blood after smoking pot?
Is it safe to donate plasma or blood after using marijuana? Are there any specific guidelines or waiting periods that donors should be aware of regarding cannabis use before participating in these donation processes?

They ask you about a million questions about legal and illegal things before you can donate. They don’t care, and they’re not going to report you to the police, they just want to make sure its safe for you and everyone involved.
I mean, if you know you’re going to be donating you probably shouldn’t smoke pot for a few days, but just because you smoked pot once or whatever or a while ago doesn’t mean you should never donate. Your body is pretty awesome at cleaning your blood. If you’ve ever used a needle to take a drug you should never donate. Its not even because of the drugs though, but the diseases.

I heard of people that donate plasma just to get weed so… yes you can. Pot does not effect the plasma in your blood. Just be careful drinking after donating… your tolerence to alcohol is decreased.
No, the Red Cross will be screening your blood for things like that so I wouldn’t even attempt it unless you are interested in spending a night or two in jail! Plus, the people receiving your blood are usually pretty ill and need the cleanest and freshest blood supply so even if the place you donate does not screen you, please do not do this to another person.
When you cease to be under the influence of it, yes. It only remains in your blood as long as you’re feeling the effects of it, after that it is stored in your fatty tissues as metabolites. This is why it can be detected in a urine test long afterwards, but it goes directly from the fatty tissue through the blood briefly and into the kidneys and out in urine. You should wait 4-5 hours or until you feel completely sober to donate blood. Don’t let the witch hunters tell you your endangering anyone, you’re not as long as you follow those guidelines.

There are two ways to donate plasma: 1. Donate free to a non-profit blood bank. This blood will be put into another human being. 2. Donate paid to a profit blood bank. This blood will NOT go into another human being in plasma form. The plasma is sold to drug manufacturers and research companies. Since you are intending to do #2 above, some advice on donating plasma: You will probably not be asked if you have smoked marijuana. Your blood will probably not be tested for marijuana. However, realize that as your plasma will be used to make drugs (for sick people) and in research (to help cure disease) that the THC in your blood can cause complications. The FDA (Food & Drug Administration) makes the rules about what questions must be asked of blood donors. “Have you smoked marijuana” is NOT one of those questions. The individual blood banks, however, have the right to add questions such as this one. And it is important not to lie, as others’ lives may literally depend on the plasma you’re donating. My recommendation is that anyone who uses illegal drugs should not donate blood or blood products. This isn’t a moral issue for me (I don’t really care if marijuana is legal or illegal), but blood/blood products that contain drugs have the potential to screw up a sick person’s life. The same is true of legal, prescribed drugs, by the way!
