is trazodone a narcotic?

I am currently taking trazodone to help with my sleep issues. I would like to understand whether trazodone is considered a narcotic. Could someone please clarify its classification and any implications that might have for my treatment?

Trazodone is used to treat depression. Trazodone is in a class of medications called serotonin modulators. It works by increasing the amount of serotonin, a natural substance in the brain that helps maintain mental balance.

Consult your doctor or a pharmacologist.

Trazodone is an antidepressant drug, but your doctor probably has you on a lower dose than he/she would prescribe for someone who is depressed. Doctors prescribe antidepressants to help people sleep because those drugs are considered safer to use for longer periods of time than narcotics (like Morphine) or sedatives (like Valium).
