What is a non-Champion equivalent to the QC12YC spark plug?

These are plugs typically used for lawn tractor Briggs & Stratton OHV engines. The QC12YC and RC12YC are the same plug as far as heat range is concerned. The difference is in the internal wiring. The "QC" is a special EMS (electromotive suppression) resistor plug. The "RC" is a standard resistor plug. The QC is only required if the engine is using electronic fuel injection / computer controls. Otherwise the "RC" provides the same service at lesser cost. There is a platinum version of this plug which should offer longer life. If the EMS protection is not needed, Sears also offers the E3.20 which is an RC12YC that they warranty for life. Today it is $6 on sale ($7.50 regular price).As for the charring and gunking up, you should be checking (1) the gap was set correctly, (2) ring wear maybe? Somehow it is not burning completely (gap too wide) or it is burning oil (which would definitely cause charring and gunking up).... Show More
